I don’t know about you, but personally I love a good flea market. I come from a land where going to garage sales (like a boot/jumble sale, but at your home) is a common Saturday morning pastime for many people-especially those who love a great bargain. I’ve missed that part of my culture very much, so when I come upon a boot sale, it’s hard for me to resist going inside.
The great news, for me, is that on Tuesday mornings there is an outdoor market in Athy. Rain or shine, frosty or dry, you’ll find dedicated vendors selling their goods. Most have tables set up in front of their vans, but some just throw tarps on the ground and set their items on them for you to rummage through yourself. I have found some fantastic (unnecessary) things…often to my husband’s dismay…at great prices. Items range from little trinkets to area rugs to outdated cereal and larder items. I don’t know that I have ever gone and left without purchasing at least one little treasure from Athy Market.
Another couple perks about Athy are two cafes we enjoy, the Bay Tree (http://www.thebaytree.ie), a great spot with delicious food that also caters for people with various food allergies, and J-One (https://www.facebook.com/pages/J1-Cafe/210241332323891), a yummy locally owned cafe. And make sure you leave enough time (and pay enough parking!) for a visit to their many charity shops. I’m a sucker for finding used items I love, so you can imagine how much I look forward to my Tuesdays in Athy.
