As we entered 2015, we were looking into something fun to do as a whole family…our seven, my brother and his wife and their little lady, and my parents. We wanted to go somewhere fun, somewhere that would have something for everyone’s enjoyment, from ages 1 through 73…what a predicament! I can say, with confidence, that we found a great spot. The LeisurePlex at Blanchardstown Shopping Centre hit the mark. Upon arrival, you walk into a huge bustling centre full of arcade games, a bowling alley, the “zoo” (kids playzone) and Quasar laser tag. As there were no prices listed online that I could find (bad move, web design team), I asked the first guy I saw what kind of deals they had going for a group of our size. Turns out he was the manager and had all the answers-he was friendly and very helpful. Actually, all the staff were very kind, engaging, and as accommodating as they could be. Unfortunately, on Bank Holidays, weekend rates apply, so the deal I was expecting to get was not possible. On their Facebook page they post weekly deals, usually mid-week you can do any two activities (bowling+quasar or bowling+zoo, etc) for €10 per person, and weekends for €12. (Sometimes they’ll do a special midweek deal for only €8)
We didn’t avail of that deal that day, but probably when we go another day that will be the way to go.
First, everyone had a certain amount of money to spend (waste) on arcade games…can you tell I did not participate in that part? I think video games were invented for boys. Obviously. And the boys (my husband and brother) had fun playing Rambo with their machine guns.
There is a huge play area for kids called “the zoo” and that is where we headed next. They gave us a killer deal that I will not tell you about to avoid your getting jealous. Just know that the manager was very kind to us (he probably felt sorry for us and how many kids we have…) All the kids, ages 6, 4, 2, and 19 months, had a blast and played for the full hour and a half. One thing I appreciated about this place is that they had a drinking fountain! I don’t know why that matters so much, but it was great to not have to purchase water for the thirsty, sweaty kids and I was able to refill my water bottle as often as I needed.
We were slotted to join a group of 12 for Quasar, but they never showed up. We only had 3 people and they recommend having at least four for it to be worth it, so we didn’t get to play that day. But it looked like it would be really great fun…maybe next time.
We decided to do bowling after we had dinner at TGIFridays next door and basically, for our group to bowl was going to be €50, which was for two 4 member families. (In the end, my mom and I didn’t bowl and my dad got a half off senior discount, so it was only €37. Score!)
The LeisurePlex is definitely a great place to go on a rainy day, especially if you’re in the Dublin area. We aren’t necessarily very close to it, but it made for a fantastic family day out and we wouldn’t hesitate to return if the opportunity arose.
