If you’re in Roscrea and looking for a cozy spot, you may stop in to Racket Hall. I had a lovely time visiting a friend over a cuppa and scone. Due to limited time I wasn’t able to explore the grounds to my satisfaction, but the few rooms I walked around were worth seeing. We sat in one of the lobby rooms in some elegant antique chairs next to a gorgeous grand piano. The art work and furnishing reminded me of pieces I’ve seen in some of the old manor homes and castles throughout this beautiful country, rich in history and class.
They had a long wooden bar in a large restaurant which reminded me of a den or country lodge with some of the stone and wood work on the walls, dim lighting and fireplace. It looked like a nice place for an evening meal, or perhaps a full Irish breakfast. The hotel boasts of many rooms with beautiful views of tall trees and green gardens near their golf course and country club.
There are at least three castles in the surrounding area and I know I passed at least two of them on my drive to Racket Hall. If there had been time I would have definitely stopped at Leap castle in Roscrea; but for now, it is going to be another place added to my “places to see” list that keeps growing the longer I live here.
